End Times: Sadismo?
Afortunadamente, cuando revisé mi corréo, vi que Geogitas me mandó este link sobre una controversia en la blogósfera sobre Jill Greenberg que me hizo voltear mi ojitos (sí, son chiquitos) así 
y sonreír.
Greenberg es una fotógrafa muy buena de la cual ya conocía algo de su trabajo. Resulta que hizo una serie de fotos con niños llorando y haciendo berrinche. Cuando uno los ve, crean algo de angustia, pero los títulos políticos que les pone, dan risa y creo que reflejan el sentir político de mucha gente de tendencia liberal en los EUA. Por ejemplo, la de “Four more years”, que hace referencia a la re-elecciòn de Bush, me pareció genial y me identifiqué con el chamaco.
La controversia radica en la forma en la cual logró que estos mococitos lloraran. Les dio una paleta o un juguete y después se los quitó. La idea de semejante drama por un materialismo puro, me parece chistosa…en especial al pensar que yo he de haber hecho berrinches similares a esa edad.
Sin embargo, al enterarse de esto, varias personas brincaron y dijeron que, casi-casi, los estaba torturando, creando traumas y angustia mental.
Tal vez soy un desalmado, pero no creo que sea tan grave. Al fin y al cabo, esto es algo que han de enfrentar todos los días en la kinder-jungla de concreto con sus compañeritos de tres años. Sus padres estaban presentes, sabían del proyecto, fueron sesiones cortas, y recibieron como 50,000 pesos por un trauma efímero.
Jeje.. ahora que lo pienso, si ella me regala 50,000 pesos y me los quita, si lloro y la demando por cruel…

Aquí hay un blog en inglés que critica a la fotógrafa (lo mejor son los comentarios) y, si están indignados y le quieren dar seguimiento a la noticia… están por su cuenta… pero no dejen de avisarme… no vaya a ser que me levante de mal humor mañana.

Wow, que fotos tan emotivas. Me gustaron mucho… mi favorita fue sin duda una que se llama “Left behind” Creo que las caritas de los niños te generan muy distintas impresiones…. muy emotiva sin duda, la manera de expresarse de esta fotógrafa. View all comments by azu

This is a pretty intense Site. It got me thinking so much that I decided to forward this to a couple of my friends. This is what Jer had to say - which I think I do agree w/in many ways (especially the end). Thought I should post it here to spark some more dialogue. In this sense, I think the display is quite sucessful as it is getting its viewers to ponder and try to interpret the meaning of these pictuers and the messages that it is trying to convey:
gotta say that it is disturbing on a couple of levels. First, of course, is the imagery; but this, I suppose, is sort of the point, so I get the inherent aesthetic value. But second, I am more deeply disturbed that there is some vague connection of this imagery to the rising power of the religious right in Washington. Perhaps I am disturbed by it because it seems to provide a way for people to be critical of culture, politics and society in general without actually knowing anything about what is really happening, or actually doing anything to change the world for the better. And the imagery is even more shocking when one considers the social and political impotence of the left in North America in general: we (and I would certainly call myself a generally apathetic left-winger) are really no better than crying babies, except that we, as adults, simply shake our heads in awe as the witches brew of poor religious scholarship takes over the most powerful positions in Washington (maybe Canada too?). Hence, I guess I take this as symptomatic of the disease of political ineptness that has befallen those that are so deeply opposed to what has become of democracy in America. Twink, I`m glad to hear you enjoyed the post. As always, your huby has my full respect. I think he was able to eloquently explain what is being presented in the pictures. It is a portrayal of the Left: in the end, pretty much hopeless. I worry that the Right is aware of this (hence the attitude) while individuals on the other side feel alone… quite like these kids when their parents stepped outside the room. Maybe, had the children been together in a room for a group photo, they could have taken Greenberg.
