I would like to know if my imac could hook up to the cablemodem through usb. I want to use my rj45 to give a crappy pc internet acccess.

That is, hook up the pc and the imac w/ ethernet cable and give acces to the mac with the usb.

I’ve never done it, but saw that two friends hooked up through usb… and figure the mac could do the same.

I have the cable modem which has an rj45 jack and a usb one. I would hook up the mac with the usb so it gets internet access through it instead of the ethernet cable. Can that be done?

We do not recommend using usb port for connecting to internet, ethernet port is always preferred…

hmmm… would it cause too many problems? In a couple of weeks, I will get an Airport and use that instead… but I would like to give both the PC and the Mac access right now… Its not worth explaining… but its the best solution for now.

Its ok. Then let me ask you another question. I also have a powerbook. And when I create a network on my Imac the Pbook doesnt see it. But if I create one from my PBook the Imac see’s it. Any reason for this?

My Imac is a G5 so Id rather it handle the network.

May i know how you have configured your network between iMac and Powerbook ?
Pepe:
I click on create network, name it G5 and do an automatic(11) channel.
Pepe:
do the same if I want to do one from the Powerbook.

Okay, since you are unable to view the network from Powerbook, at this stage the better option will be to contact our phone support team and have them take a closer look at this issue….
